This past summer, I spent a week in Portland to attend LeakyCon, a Harry Potter fan convention. I regularly look into pop culture phenomenons just to see what the hype is all about. When I read Harry Potter, not only did I get it, I became a fan as well. When asked to attend this fan convention with friends and fellow scholars, I couldn’t resist! However, as I’ve detailed in a piece over at Antenna, I had a hard time negotiating what it means to be a fan, an academic, and someone who naturally observes before participating.
